Patrick "Bahumat" Rochefort is a professional technical writer and
occupational health and safety professional. In his scant spare time, he
takes breaks from writing training programs to write speculative
fiction, science fiction, and fantasy. Anthropomorphic characters are
occasionally the subjects of his fiction. He finds his work inspired by
grotesque and beautiful questions of "What if?", and writes about the
futures he hopes his children will live to see, or about the futures he
hopes they'll never have to witness. He writes erotic fiction centered
around happily flawed people and their happily flawed hearts. As a
professional technical writer, he bristles at the "Genre Ghetto"
expectation of good work being underpaid or unpaid; and advocates on
behalf of fellow authors for fair, industry-standard pay.
He writes under multiple pseudonyms, based on genre.
You'll find his work published via SoFurry.com and in "Heat", as well as whatever conbooks are accepting submissions at the
time.
Patrick Rochefort finds tremendous inspiration drawn
from modern "hard" science-fiction authors, like Peter Watts, Paolo
Bacigalupi, and Cory Doctorow, and other fearlessly bleak writers
unafraid to make characters suffer for the sake of a good story. He's
known to demolish the hopes and dreams of fellow would-be writers
through seminars and panels on the realities of publication and writing
for a living. It keeps the competition down, and besides, to steal from
his literary hero, Peter Watts: "Anyone who can be discouraged from writing, should be."
